The crew of a Royal Canadian Air Force CH-149 Cormorant helicopter conducted a medicalĀ evacuation of an injured middle-aged female on Wednesday, August 20, 2014 from Nelson Island, B.C.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre (JRCC) Victoria received a call indicating a woman was in possibleĀ medical distress after a fall on a rocky beach on a remote part of Nelson Island.
The 442 Transport and RescueĀ Squadron crewmembers left their base at 19 Wing Comox at approximately 4:45 p.m. and arrived on scene at 5:20 pm.
Members of Royal Canadian Marine Search and Rescue Unit 61, from Pender Harbour, arrived on scene firstĀ and conducted first aid on the woman.
Canadian Coast Guard Vessel Cape Caution and Powell River lifeboatĀ also attended the scene.
Upon arrival of the Cormorant, the crew hoisted two Search and Rescue Technicians (SAR Techs) 170 feetĀ into a clearing.
Once on the ground, the SAR Techs provided further first aid before loading the patient into a rescue basket.
The patient was then hoisted into the helicopter and flown to Vancouver International Airport where she wasĀ transferred to the care of B.C. Ambulance in stable condition.
