Comox Valley teachers will be out in force on the picket lines come Wednesday, as their contract dispute with the BC Government continues. Goat News spoke with Comox Valley School District Superintendent Sherry Elwood.
The Comox District Teachers Association confirms full scale picketing starts Wednesday throughout the valley. Veteran mediator Vince Ready recently was recently brought on board to try and break the logjam in contract negotiations. Education Minister Peter Fassbender says bargaining could be underway this week, adding he is confident Ready will start mediation as soon as he believes it will be productive. Fassbender says the government has no plans to legislate an end to the dispute.
No word yet on whether a deal can be reached in time for classes to resume as scheduled on September 2nd.
