The Member of Parliament for Courtenay-Alberni is calling on the government to take action on derelict vessels.
Gord Johns went out on the water at Deep Bay Tuesday to tour a group of derelict vessels that are in danger of sinking.
He says it’s time that governments closed the jurisdictional gaps so these boats can be dealt with.
Johns notes the issue of derelict vessels is both environmental and economic as an oil or fuel spill from a sunken vessel could shut down shellfish growers in the area.
