Conservation Officers are reminding people of the importance of calling in cougar encounters quickly.
Sergeant Ben York says CO’s were recently called out after an attack by a cougar on a trail near Port Hardy.
He says the man from the lower mainland was jogging on a logging road when the small cougar approached.
York says the incident wasn’t reported to conservation officers until the next day, which made it difficult for trackers to find the cat.

He says they think it was a case of a young cat learning a lesson.
Anyone who has an interaction with a cougar is asked to call the R.A.P.P line at 1-877-925-7277
