A heads up for students…time to stock up on school supplies, your extended summer break is just about over.
In a news conference last night, BCTF President Jim Iker says 86 percent of BC teachers voted in favour of ratifying the six-year, 7.25 percent wage hike package hammered out after a marathon bargaining stint at a Richmond hotel.
Iker says 31, 741 teachers in BC voted, with 27, 275 saying yes to the tentative agreement, which has now formally ratified by the BCTF.
Iker says there were tough negotiations in difficult times but he believes the union has ultimately emerged stronger through this ordeal. He says the union will continue to fight for more gains and more funding.
A partial school day is set for the Comox Valley on Monday, on Tuesday full classes are back.
