The city of Courtenay is moving along with a proposal to update its tree management bylaw.
A new bylaw would simply be referred to as the tree bylaw and suggests setting a target of 50 trees per hectare in the city.
Courtenay Mayor Larry Jangula says the bylaw will now proceed to first and second readings.
Comox Valley Conservation Strategy spokesperson David Stapley says the current bylaw is out-of-date.

He says trees can lead to environmental cost savings, such as storm water management – which is something that has had a positive impact nearby in Campbell River.
Jangula says the first and second readings will allow any members of the community to provide their own feedback before council moves onto their third and final reading on the bylaw.
