COMOX VALLEY, B.C.- Local fire departments want to make sure you safely dispose of your Christmas trees this season.
Both the Comox and Courtenay detachments are hosting their annual tree chippings this weekend.
The Courtenay crew hosts their event on both Saturday, January 6th and Sunday, January 7th, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Residents can drop off their trees for a minimum donation of $5 at the fire hall at 620 Cumberland Road, or at the Crown Isle Thrifty Foods on Lerwick Road.
Donations will go towards local charities and youth sports groups.
Arrangements for pick-ups can also be made by calling the hall at (250) 334-2513.
Over in Comox, the department is chipping trees at the fire hall on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Like the Courtenay tree chip, the service in Comox can be done for a monetary donation, which will go towards the You Are Not Alone (YANA) Fund Society.
YANA is a local organization that helps Comox Valley families travelling for medical services for their children. A tree pick-up can also be scheduled in Comox. For further details, contact the Comox detachment at (250) 339-2432.
