COURTENAY, B.C- Work has started on a new sewage line in the Comox Valley.
According to a news release issued by the Comox Valley Regional District, construction has begun on the Hudson Truck line as of this week.
The line is being built in the Knight Road/Idens way area, and will allow for sewage in the northeast end of Courtenay to bypass the Courtenay Pump Station and follow a different route to the Comox Valley Water Pollution Control Centre along Brent Road.
The news release states that the new line will reduce pressure on the Courtenay Pump Station, increasing capacity and the ability to deal with future community growth.
“This is an important piece of infrastructure for the region’s sewer service,” said Charlie Gore, the CVRD’s Manager of Capital Projects, in the release.
“As with all construction, there will be some disruption, but we will be working to minimize impacts on local residents, and we thank residents in advance for their patience.”
Land is currently being cleared for the pipe route, with construction continuing until this May. One way alternating traffic should be expected at times along the construction routes. Regular updates will be issued by the CVRD.
