Coalwatch Comox Valley is sounding the alarm today, saying they’ve learned the Provincial Government has approved a coal license in the region for Compliance Coal Corporation in the area of Anderson Lake, which includes part of the Tsolum River Watershed.
The watershed has been the focus of multi million dollar remediation and restoration efforts over the years after a short lived 1960’s era copper mine decimated the river, wiping out it’s once famed fish runs.

Snyder says CoalWatch Comox Valley is disappointed the province o-k’d the license in a sensitive watershed area. Compliance Coal continues efforts in pursuing the Raven Coal Mine Project south of Courtenay near Buckley Bay.
