With the possibility of high river levels this weekend the city is staking precautionary measures.
It’s deploying the Aqua Dam on Comox Road between the Old Island Highway and Highway 19A bypass near the Courtenay Slough. The city says it expects the Aqua Dam will be in place for several days.
Other flood risk measures in place include a Tall Wall, installed permanently in 2017 on Old Island Highway between Ryan Road and Headquarters Road. As well, an Aqua Dam is currently in place that was installed in November in Lewis Park behind the outdoor pool and walkway area.
Drivers take note; the south bound lane between Old Island Highway and Highway 19a bypass will be closed for about four hours Saturday morning as the Aqua Dam is installed.
