COMOX, B.C. – Residents can visit the Comox Fire Department and purchase kits to protect their home from a wildfire.
A release from the department states that during a wildfire, hot embers can be carried a long distance and subsequently land on your home.
The WASP sprinkler system helps get water on your roof and surrounding area, to keep hot embers off your residence during a wildfire event.
According to the department, the kits are easy to install, and come with everything you need to help protect a standard sized home.
“Our fire department uses these same sprinklers in our structural protection trailer and throughout our province. They are designed to be quickly deployed in an area threatened by wildfire,” said Comox Fire Chief Gord Schreiner in the release.
“We are pleased to be able to offer these to citizens so they can be better prepared in case of a wildfire in our area.”
Each kit comes with two adjustable, agricultural grade sprinkler heads designed to conserve water and work on very low pressure if need be. Two mounting brackets are also included, along with two forestry grade flat garden-type hoses.
The department’s release states that any profits made from the sale of the kits will go back into additional interface fire equipment in Comox.
