The traffic division of the Comox Valley RCMP is sounding the alarm over the dangers of distracted driving.
Corporal Brad Matchett says, believe it or not, distracted driving has become more deadly than impaired, or, drunken driving.
“We now know that in 2012, 81 people lost their lives in British Columbia as a result of distracted driving,” says Matchett. “That’s compared to about 55 people who died a result of impaired driving.”
If that’s not enough to convince you to put down your phone behind the wheel, Matchett reminds that a ticket for distracted driving will run you $167, even for a first time offence.
