COMOX, B.C. – A call from a concerned citizen led to the seizure of a handgun by Comox Valley RCMP late Tuesday night.
At roughly 11:30 p.m. on June 26, Comox Valley RCMP received a report of shots being fired in the area of the Comox Lake dam.
Police went to the area right away and discovered several people, several vehicles, and several shell casings on the ground.
Further investigation led to the discovery of a handgun inside one of the vehicles.
The handgun has been seized by police and the investigation is continuing.
Comox Valley RCMP Cst. Monika Terragni told MyComoxValleyNow that no charges have been laid at this time.
Investigators are working with the Integrated Forensic Identification Section, Police Dog Services, and the Comox Valley RCMP Drug Section.
“We were able to remove a firearm from our streets thanks to the call from a concerned citizen and the thorough investigation by officers at the scene” said Comox Valley RCMP Cpl. Aaron Chamberlin.
Terragni encourages people to call the RCMP if they see any suspicious activity.
“This is a perfect example of someone calling in about suspicious activity and us being able to take a firearm off the street as a result of that call. It just drives home that it is really important to keep calling us because the public is our eyes and ears out there.”
