No luck yet for man who lost $5351 in Merville

MERVILLE, B.C. – ‘Frank’ has all but given up hope that the thousands of dollars he lost Tuesday morning will ever be recovered.

The Merville man, who owns an electrician business in the Valley and whose name has been altered for this story, says he lost the money when he drove away from his home along Railway Avenue around 9:52 a.m.

He had taken out $5351 from the bank to pay an invoice, and placed the cash inside an envelope. The envelope had the name “Dennis” written across it in black sharpie, and it was sealed with clear tape.

On Tuesday, Frank told the MyComoxValleyNow.com newsroom that he took a phone call before getting in his truck that morning, and placed the envelope on the side of the truck after getting the call.

He then walked around his truck, took out a ladder, and got inside the vehicle, driving away with the envelope still perched on the outside, headed to the Merville Store down Headquarters Road.

He believes it may have fallen off around the corner of Headquarters and Railway Avenue.

“I’m crushed, I’m upset about it, because I still owe Dennis $5351,” said Frank.

When contacted by MyComoxValleyNow.com Friday morning, Frank said the odds of getting the cash back are slim.

“It is what it is,” Frank said. “I made a mistake and I’m going to live with it.”

“I put (an ad) on CraigsList lost and found as well,” he added. “I’ve sort of let it go. It was good to see that I drove out of my driveway when I viewed my camera. That was a little bit of closure. At least I’m not wondering if it’s hidden in my house somewhere, or if I dropped it.”

He’s still offering $1000 for anyone who helps him find the envelope.

“(But) I’m not holding onto any hope,” Frank admitted.
