COMOX VALLEY, B.C. – Statistics from the Comox Valley Economic Development’s ‘Business Counts’ report indicate noticeable growth in the region.
The CVED’s Regional Statistics & Research Update shows that from January to June there were 179 housing starts in the Comox Valley, marking a 41 per cent increase from the same six-month period in 2017.
House prices also saw a noticeable jump in single-family house prices in May, averaging out to $573,443, according to the report. That’s a 14 per cent increase in price from the previous May.
Real estate sales saw a slight bump for the first six months of the year, up two per cent from the same period in 2017.
And the report shows that more people are travelling to and from the Comox Valley.
In May, 1,612 people visited the Vancouver Island Visitor Centre (VIVC), an eight per cent increase from the previous May.
And there were 19 year-to-date bus stops at the VIVC, up 47 percent from January to June 2017.
At Comox Valley Airport, there were 34,024 passengers in May, marking a 12 percent increase from people flying in and out of the airport in May 2017.
A big draw to the Comox Valley was the The BC Seafood Expo, according to the report.
The expo is the largest seafood industry trade event in B.C., and it secured more than 300 delegates, 40-plus trade show booths, and hosted more than 40 international seafood buyers, via the Ministry of Jobs, Trade, and Technology Buyers Mission.
