OYSTER RIVER, B.C. – Quick response and assistance from the public helped knock down a grass fire in the Oyster River area on Monday.
Oyster River Fire Deputy Chief Chris Murray said the department was called out at around 3:00 p.m. on August 6 to an area just north of Hamm Road on Highway 19.
Murray said on scene was a 30-by-15 grass fire.
“Turned out the cause of the grass fire was that a vehicle’s piston blew out and the oil pump bounced into the dry grass,” he explained.

“I’d like to thank the public that stopped to put the fast-growing little fire out. Without (their) quick action, it could have been a lot worse.”
No injuries were reported in the incident.
