COURTENAY, B.C. – While most of us are in mid-summer mode, Comox Valley’s junior B hockey team is getting set to hit the ice.
The Glacier Kings’ main training camp is just two weeks away and spots are available for 15- to- 20-year-old players looking to crack the roster.
Camp dates are Aug. 24 to 26.
Junior-aged players interested in auditioning can email interim head coach Jordan Kamprath at [email protected].
Hopefuls are urged to include their age, hockey history, and why they are interested in joining the Glacier Kings.
Kamprath is keeping an open mind heading into camp.
“We have positions available for our main camp,” Kamprath said. “We’re not going to say you’re going to make the team, but there are positions to try out (for). We’re more than happy to look into somebody and talk to them if they want to come out to play.”
Deal with Generals
Meanwhile, the Glacier Kings have traded 17-year-old forward Jory Swanson to the Oceanside Generals in exchange for a player development fee.
The Comox product scored eight points (5G, 3A) in 29 games last season.
Opening weekend
The Glacier Kings open their 2018/19 season on Thursday, Sept. 6 when they travel to Victoria’s Archie Browning Arena to play the Cougars.
Two days later, on Friday, Sept. 8, the Glacier Kings will play their home opener when they host Saanich at the Comox Valley Sports Centre.
Tough year
The local boys will be looking to bounce back from a rough 2017/18 campaign, when they finished last in the North Division – and the entire Vancouver Island Junior Hockey League – with a 4-43-0-1 record.
At the other end of the spectrum, the Campbell River Storm ruled the North Division with a 36-6-4-2 mark.
