CUMBERLAND, B.C. – Construction is set to start at the No. 1 Japanese Town Historic Site in Cumberland’s Coal Creek Historic Park.
Upgrade work will include the installation of 450 metres of crushed aggregate pathways, trailhead, and parking area improvements, as well as site grading.
A notice from the village stated that the work will help improve accessibility to pave the way for an interpretive walking tour to debut in 2019.
Fall 2018 work is scheduled to wrap in November. The village has partnered with the Cumberland Museum and Archives on the development of new historical interpretive signage for the site.
This will include a self-guided tour with around 12 stops.
Earlier this year, Cumberland acquired $30,000 from the province’s Rural Dividend Grant program for the project. The village has committed around $10,000 for a total project budget of $40,000.
