CUMBERLAND, B.C. – During the 2018 municipal election, residents in the village of Cumberland also faced a referendum question at the polls.
The question asked residents if they supported the Wastewater Upgrade Project Loan Authorization Bylaw.
The bylaw authorizes the village to borrow up to $4,400,000, including interest, over a period of no more than 20 years in order to finance the construction of an upgraded lagoon wastewater treatment plant.
According to the unofficial results, 1,011 people voted YES in favour of the bylaw, while 316 people voted against.
