COURTENAY, B.C- A Comox Valley woman has been found guilty, two years after a man was struck and killed in Courtenay.
Serina Laliberte was found guilty of having a blood alcohol level over 0.08 ml/100 ml of blood causing an accident resulting in death and two counts of causing an accident resulting in bodily harm.
Laliberte had been on trial after a multi-vehicle collision in Courtenay back in 2016, where a pedestrian was killed. She had originally been facing nine charges, but was found guilty of the three.
“This was disappointing news at first, but when Crown counsel spoke to us outside the courtroom, he explained that the sentence will likely be the same regardless of the not guilty verdicts on the three other charges,” read part of a statement from the Comox Valley chapter of MADD.
A sentence is expected to be delivered in February or March of next year, according to MADD.
