COURTENAY, B.C. – The Adopt-a-Grandparent program still has tags on the trees.
The annual holiday campaign was started by grade 11 G.P. Vanier student Breanna Brosko.
Christmas trees have been set up at local establishments, with tags attached to branches. Residents can visit the local spots, pick a tag and help a senior.
The tags have the information of a senior in the Valley. Participants then go out and buy a gift for that senior.
Brosko said they have teamed up with the Casa Loma Seniors Village, Glacier View Lodge, and the Cumberland Lodge.

Brosko’s grandmother, Wendy Clarke, said they still have 40 extra tags left.
All of the tags at Finders Keep Hers Boutique have been picked up. Tags remain at Art Knapp’s Plantland, Jo Klassen’s Restaurant and White Spot in Courtenay.
Clarke said the original December 16th deadline date has been extended to the 19th.
She said the first official delivery is set for the 21st, however some packages have been given out because they contained plants.
“They were growing, and all of a sudden they went from buds to beautiful, huge flowers…so we ended up giving them out to two patients in Cumberland,” she said.
“One was a 100 year old lady, and the look on her face was unbelievable. She was so happy. You can really see what this does for the seniors.”
