Comox Fire to host tree chipping event

COMOX, B.C. – The Comox Fire Department will be conducting its annual tree chipping event in 2019.

It’s a way for residents to safely and responsibly recycle their Christmas trees in the new year.

Residents can bring their trees and a cash donation to the fire hall on January 5th and 6th, from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days.

For a minimum $10 donation, firefighters can pick up your tree at home. Call (250) 339-2432 for more details on the pick-up program.

100 per cent of the proceeds will go to YANA (You Are Not Alone) Comox Valley. The charitable organization assists families with sick children with covering medical and travel costs.

“This is a great project and a win-win for all involved. The Christmas trees get recycled as compost and the firefighters help out their favorite local charity,” said Comox fire chief Gord Schreiner in a release.

“Another great example of how our firefighters work hard to make our communities better places to live.”
