OYSTER RIVER, B.C- A late night crash closed the highway in Oyster River last night.
According to Oyster River fire chief Bruce Green, the incident took place just after midnight, just south of the Highway 19 river crossing in Oyster River. A driver had slid off the road and off the highway on the east side, down a 20 foot embankment, and 30 feet into the bush.
Green said that firefighters had to cut the roof off the vehicle to get the driver out, and an air ambulance was briefly considered though ultimately not used.
The driver was conscious and talking when they were taken to hospital, though Green didn’t have any more information on their condition.
The highway was closed for roughly two hours while emergency services dealt with the issue.
