UPDATE – Male driver ‘very lucky’ after rollover

COURTENAY, B.C.- Crews responded to a single vehicle crash near the Vanier Sports Centre Monday afternoon.

Fire and ambulance crews were called to 3001 Vanier Drive shortly before 2:30 p.m. in response to a single vehicle rollover.

The incident took place in front of the Vanier Sports complex, and involved a two door sports car.

Fire chief Don Bardonnex said the male driver was traveling at a high rate of speed and is lucky to be alive.

“(The vehicle) went into the ditch at a fairly high rate of speed, nose-dived in, spun around and ejected the driver.”

“He’s a very lucky gentlemen,” said Bardonnex.

The man was treated on scene, then taken by EMS with minor injuries.
