Campbell River Storm owner slapped with peace bond

One of the owners of the Campbell River Storm hockey team has a peace bond issued against him after threatening violence against the owners and head coach of the Comox Valley Glacier Kings.

Provincial court documents recently released say that during the 2013-2014 season, a player who had formerly played for the Storm was recruited and joined the Glacier Kings.

Kevin Spooner, the aforementioned Storm owner, thought his team was due some compensation under league rules. And in separate incidences, he verbally and physically threatened the owners of the Glacier Kings and their head coach, going so far as to allegedly hitting one of the owners in the back of the head.

Communications council Neil MacKenzie from the Criminal Justice Branch says there was a court hearing back in December.

Under the peace bond, Spooner may not communicate directly with the owners of the Glacier Kings and must stay at least 10 metres away from them and at least 500 metres from their home.

Mackenzie does clarify that an application for a peace bond is not a criminal charge.
