CUMBERLAND B.C- Cumberland community groups will be getting less funding from council than they were hoping to receive over the next five years.
Three community organizations proposed funding from council, each with its own reasoning behind the request.
Council made changes to those proposals, stating that the 2019 budget did not have enough funds to support all three requests as their primary funding went towards the new museum expansion and renovation.
The Cumberland Lake Wilderness Society did not submit a funding request which left extra funding available for other organizations, which totalled $47,969 for this year.
That will be split between the three community organizations:
The Cumberland Community Schools Society asked for $20,000, and will receive $17,000.
The Cumberland Events Society asked for $14,562, and will receive $14,600.
The United Riders of Cumberland asked for $30,000, and will relieve $15,000.
The total approved funding for 2019 will be $46,600 for the three groups.
The Village also discussed funding for the next four years, which will follow the budget allowance of $37,000.
Up to the year 2023, excluding 2019, each organization will receive:
The Cumberland Community Schools Society will receive $14,000 annually until 2023.
The Cumberland Events Society will receive $10,000 annually until 2023.
The United Riders of Cumberland will relieve $13,000 annually until 2023.
Council also stated that these grants could be changed based on the budget of the following years, but for now they will stay at the agreed numbers.
