CUMBERLAND B.C – Council approved the frontage tax rate for the village last night, and it will be increasing for residents.
Council were given updated bylaws for the water, sewer and storm water frontage taxes Monday night.
Residents can expect an average cost of their parcel frontage tax in 2019 to be $272.07, which is a $26 increase from the average cost last year.
Over the next five years, that cost is expected to increase annually.
The cost for residents between 2020 to 2023 is just an estimate, as prices could fluctuate.
In 2020, the average cost of parcel frontage tax would be $308.84.
In 2021, the average cost of parcel frontage tax would be $351.40.
In 2022, the average cost of parcel frontage tax would be $400.83.
In 2023, the average cost of parcel frontage tax would be $459.67.
Michelle Mason, the financial officer for the village, says the frontage taxes will help fund the replacement of the villages infrastructure assets.
“The money we raise from frontage taxes we are using that to replace our linear infrastructure assets,” said Mason.
“So that’s your water pipes, your sewer pipes, your storm pipes, and our road replacements.”
The property tax values for residents of the village were also discussed at Mondays council.
Those values won’t be approved until the council meeting on April 22, but according to the report from Mason, the ‘property and parcel taxes are estimated to increase in 2019 for an average single-family household by $146, and for a strata type unit by $148’.
