COURTENAY B.C – After three days of strict water restrictions, no tickets have been issued.
That’s according to Marc Rutten, the general manager of the CVRD’s Engineering Services Branch. He says residents are cooperating with the water restrictions quite well.
Under the restrictions, all use of water for any purpose other than drinking, food preparation and personal hygiene is prohibited from April 12th to April 22nd. The move effects all users of the system, with the majority in Courtenay and Comox.
Cumberland uses its own water and wastewater system.
“At this point we haven’t had to issue any tickets or fines, it seems the community is responding well to the water restrictions,” said Rutten.
He also said that if you see anyone using water in a manner they shouldn’t be, you can contact the regional district.
“If residents see water being used inappropriately, they can phone the CVRD and we will definitely dispatch someone to the home or business to have a conversation with the owner.”
Rutten added that he understands the restrictions are inconvenient, but says the Regional District appreciates the cooperation from residents.
“A lot of gratitude towards the community for complying with the restrictions. It has helped reduce water flow through the system.”
If you see someone using water irresponsibly, you can contact the Regional District at 250-334-6000.
