COMOX, B.C- The repairs on the sewer pipe near Goose Spit Park are going to take longer than first anticipated, according to the Comox Valley Regional District.
The leak has been confirmed to be from the recently installed HMCS Quadra forcemain, according to the district. Quadra’s pump station has been shut down and isolated, and the district says the leaked wastewater and surrounding soil has been removed, with the area being made safe.
Marc Rutten, the general manager for the district’s engineering branch, has said a 500 square foot area has been cordoned off so a contractor can excavate and work on the line.
The CVRD has said the repairs will take at least until the end of today, with work possibly continuing tomorrow.
The first parking lot along Goose Spit has been closed off to the public to allow crews to repair the leak and there is parking available in the lots further west.
The stairs at Goose Spit may be accessed from the trail along Hawkins Road (Hawkins Greenway), but park users are advised to stay on the trail and watch for machinery.
We will have more updates as they are available.
