COURTENAY, B.C. – A man reportedly had to be airlifted to Victoria after rolling his SUV on Comox Road just after midnight last night.
According to Courtenay Fire Department captain Greg Lamb, the SUV rolled into the ditch and into some trees just before the bird sanctuary, on the Courtenay side of the road.
Two trucks and 13 firefighters responded to the scene, according to Lamb.
The SUV came to rest on its side, and the driver was trapped and had to be extricated from the vehicle before being carried by firefighters to a waiting ambulance.
Lamb said the driver’s injuries were significant enough, that he had to reportedly be airlifted from Courtenay to Victoria General Hospital.
There is no word yet if speed or alcohol factored into the crash.
