COMOX, B.C – Comox Fire Rescue is selling wildfire protection kits, which aim to protect homes when a wild fire is nearby.
The kits include two sprinkler heads which help dampen the roof of a home and surrounding area as a fire approaches.
Comox fire chief Gord Schreiner said the kits will help residents be prepared in the event of a wildfire.
“We are pleased to be able to offer these to citizens so they can be better prepared in case of a wildfire in our area,” said Schreiner.
He added that although there aren’t many forest fires in the Comox area, he recommends the kits for those who live farther away from town.
“Definitely recommend it for people who live in the more rural areas where they’re close to potential wildfire areas like large forested areas, or parks with lots of trees in them.”
The fire hall ordered 50 kits in total but only 25 arrived Monday morning, and Schreiner says 18 kits are available for purchase as of Tuesday.
They are available for $154.99, and can be purchased by visiting the fire hall located at 1870 Noel Ave, or by calling them at 250-339-2432.
