The Roseland Spitfire has been undergoing restoration here in the Comox Valley for over a decade, and now, the group restoring it, says they’re moving it to Gatineau, Quebec, so the last phase of work, like attaching the wings and a new paint job, can begin.
First off, if you don’t know the story of the Spitfire, here’s a quick history lesson from Program Manager, and Courtenay Councillor John Ambler.
Vintage Wings has been restoring the plane ever since it took the project 
over from the local Air Force museum in 2008, spending roughly $2.4 million on the work so far. The museum had been working on it for 8 years before that.
Once the plane is done and thoroughly tested, Vintage Wings says they’re hoping to have a celebratory flight across Canada, ending back here in the Comox Valley.
No firm completion date yet, but Vintage Wings spokesperson Terry Chester did say they’re eyeing the end of 2015, with test flights hopefully taking place next spring.
