CAMPBELL RIVER, BC – A couple people are facing drug trafficking charges following arrests by the Campbell River RCMP.
During a traffic stop on May 17th, members of the Surrey Uniform Gang Task Force and the Campbell River Street Crimes Unit arrested a man from the mainland. The RCMP says officersseized a bag of mixed drugs, nearly $1000 in cash, multiple cell phones and 2.5 ounces of prepackaged cocaine and fentanyl.
The man will appear in court on June 29th in Campbell River. He faces cocaine and fentanyl trafficking charges.
On May 23rd, police responded to a call at a home on Fir Street. A man, already known to police, was arrested on scene. The RCMP says officers found firearms, prohibited weapons, and a small quantity of drugs. Shane Hogue is facing multiple criminal charges.
Eight days later the RCMP says a man known to police was out driving while prohibited. When the Campbell River Street Crimes Unit tried to pull him over, the RCMP says the man fled.
He was caught after a foot chase and arrested. The RCMP says cocaine, fentanyl, cash, and a “drug contaminated scale” were seized, as was the vehicle as “offence related property.”
Tyler Derycke was charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking cocaine and fentanyl as well as flight from police.
Then on June 5th the RCMP attempted to stop another man in the Save on Foods parking lot who the RCMP says has a “significant police history.”
He was driving while prohibited as well and also fled from police. The RCMP says he side-swiped a police car and drove through a pedestrian crossing narrowly missing other vehicles and people.
Police called the pursuit off because of the danger to the public but were able to find and arrest David Lucas the next day after a short chase on foot.
He’s been charged with breaching release conditions and Motor Vehicle Act offences.
