CUMBERLAND, B.C – The annual Cumberland Miners Memorial returns to the Comox Valley this weekend.
The 34th annual event will be taking place both Saturday and Sunday at the Cumberland Museum and Archives.
Museum Historian Robin Folvik says events like this one help bring awareness to the importance of safety in union work environments.
“I think in a lot of these mining communities, or communities, where there is a large working population that are unionized, coming together to think about these things, really does adds a sense of rejuvenation to looking at the past, present, and future of not only social justice issues but also but also our work.”
The two-day event has many things on the agenda including laying flowers on union activist Ginger Goodwin’s grave, guided walking tours, a book launch, and a BBQ.
