The Islands Trust Council wants to hear from residents to help develop its budget for 2020 and 2021.
This year, the budget is a response to its March 2019 Climate Emergency Declaration and has a climate action focus, building on the idea to preserve and protect its mandate.
Chair of the Islands Trust Council, Peter Luckham says public input for the budget change process is very important.
“Last year, we joined governments around the world in declaring a climate emergency. With this budget, the intention is to expand our climate change mitigation and adaptation actions. We hope the public will participate in our budget consultation by completing our online survey, sending us an email, or presenting to Trust Council to let us know how they feel about what we’re proposing.”
The proposed budget for the islands is $8,180,478 over the next two years and is based on the assumption that it would introduce a few new climate-action initiatives including developing climate change, demographic, and environmental indicator data sets and implementing a climate change-focused stewardship education program.
An online survey is available to residents to fill out, or you can give your input by email until February 9th.
Island Trust says if your thoughts require an in-person presentation to council, the next meeting is on March 10th and 12th on Salt Spring Island.

The Islands Trust Area covers the islands and waters between the mainland and southern Vancouver Island, including Howe Sound and as far north as Comox.
