Comox Strathcona Waste Management is hosting two open houses over the next week to showcase its plans for a new regional composting facility.
The CSWM Board made the decision to build a regional organics composting facility last fall.
The new center will be located at the Campbell River Waste Management Centre with a transfer station set up at the Comox Valley Waste Management Centre.
This composting facility will be operational in the fall of 2021 and will allow curbside organics collection for over 30,000 single-family homes in Campbell River, Comox, Cumberland and Courtenay.
Senior Manager of CSWM Services, Andrew McGifford says the open house is a great opportunity to address any issues that were brought up at previous meetings.
“We heard that there are odour concerns, there are water quality concerns, and the impact to wildlife and we’re hoping to address some of those concerns that the public had at that time.”
The open houses will take place at the Maritime Heritage Centre in Campbell River this Thursday and next Wednesday from 4:00-6:00pm.
An online survey is also available for residents to provide feedback to the CSWM board until February 10th.
