There could be some changes coming to 6th street…the city of Courtenay could be seeing the installation of a new cycling and pedestrian bridge.
It would be at the bottom of 6th street, and allow access to cross over the Courtenay River.
One stumbling block that the committee putting this together discovered in their proposal to council was the cost. This project would need 1.9 million dollars to be completed, but Courtenay council isn’t too sure if they want to offer up.
Now for another speed bump the committee mentioned, we spoke with Filipa Atwood.

As for what the committee’s asked from Courtenay council on this.
The committee says unlike the 5th street bridge, this proposed structure wouldn’t need as much maintenance because of the type of construction materials proposed.
