It’s another year of success for the Comox Valley’s Coldest Night of the Year Walk.
The annual fundraiser helps charities serving people who are homeless, hurt, and hungry.
However, due to the pandemic, this year’s efforts were a little different.
As a virtual, socially distanced walk, participants were encouraged to choose where they walked, how far they walked and when.
Rather than hosting a single-day event, organizers encouraged walkers to choose their own path, stay in their bubble, and have fun.
Comox Valley residents walked on the beaches, hiked on the Cumberland trails, snowshoed on Mount Washington and walked around neighbourhoods and in the downtown core of Cumberland, Comox and Courtenay.-
The 6th annual celebration was able to raise $172,000, 142 percent of the coordinators’ goal.
It was also a record number year for participation as well, with 79 teams and 457 Walkers taking part.
The Comox Valley was the best on Vancouver Island, third in the province, and fifth in all of Canada when it came to fundraising efforts.
