The Vancouver Island Better Business Bureau says with outdoor market and festival season here, consumers need to be savvy when dealing with kiosk vendors.
The BBB says make sure you know who you’re dealing with, get receipts, contact details, and ask how information on entry forms will get used.
President and CEO Rosalind Scott says almost all vendors are reputable businesses, and they’re speaking out now because of a recent case of fraud.
Scott says a group set up at a number of Island locations, all over Vancouver island, illegally using the name of a legitimate business…and ran a sham contest to gather various personal information.
Police are investigating.
