A vote is coming up on Saturday regarding financing high-speed internet infrastructure for Hornby and Denman islands.
The expected cost is nearly $7.6 million and 90 per cent would be covered by grants.
The remaining 10 per cent of the funding would come from the community.
“The proposed new service would enable high-speed internet in homes and businesses on both Hornby and Denman islands. This is something I have heard many community members ask for over the past several years,” said Comox Valley Regional District Electoral Area A director Daniel Arbour. “The cost for this service would be approximately $40 per year for a period of ten years for a property assessed at $500,000. After ten years, it will drop to zero dollars and you will still be receiving the CityWest services you signed up for including phone, cable, and internet.”
Voting is taking place from 8:00 am to 8:00 pm at the Denman Island Seniors Centre and New Horizons Seniors Hall.
Special voting is also being held on Wednesday from 9:00 am to noon at the Denman Island Seniors Centre and 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm at Hornby Island Community Hall.
Registration will take place during the voting period.
