Funding from the province will support festivals for seafood and boating enthusiasts next year.
Both the BC Seafood Festival and Nautical Days in Comox have been selected for the funding. The B.C. Fairs, Festivals and Events Recovery Fund (FFERF) will provide a one-time grant of up to 20 per cent of operating costs.
A total of $68,795 is being given between the two festivals, according to a press release from the provincial government.
The Town of Comox says COVID-19 has challenged the larger events in recent years. The two festivals are important to the community spirit, and they are excited for the return this summer.
“Comox has a vibrant commercial fishery and harbour that forms an important part of the Town’s economy,” said Mayor Russ Arnott. “We are incredibly thankful and excited to receive this funding, as it will enable the return of two landmark events over the summer.”
“These events not only highlight and celebrate our region’s seafood industry but also showcase our coastal community and the positive impact it brings to the region.”
The town says they will monitor public health orders as the events draw closer.
The 2022 Open BC Junior Women’s and Junior Men’s Curling Championships, Comox Valley Art Gallery Return to Water, and Snow to Surf Race events have also received provincial grants.
