The final concrete pour on the 5th Street Bridge in Courtenay was cancelled Sunday night after workers experienced challenges with materials.
“The concrete mix needs to meet very specific criteria and on-site tests showed it wasn’t meeting requirements,” the City of Courtenay said in a release. “Once the concrete starts flowing the contractor will only have one shot to get it poured and finished.”
The bridge was closed to vehicle traffic on Saturday and Sunday to complete the pour.
A new date to finish the final pour has not been decided.
