On Thursday at approximately 2:20 p.m. the Powell River RCMP received a report of a plane crash which occurred at the Powell River Airport, Powell River, BC. BC Ambulance, the Fire Department and Police attended.
RCMP say the four seater Model- PA -30 dual prop Piper Twin Commander with three people on board landed on its underbelly, coming to rest on the Airport runway.
Police confirm the 79 year old male pilot , his 63 year old male co-pilot and the 63 year old female passenger all escaped the plane with minor injuries.
All three occupants of the plane were treated at the scene by BC Ambulance and were not taken to hospital. Both males are Victoria residents, while the female resides in Powell River.
Police say the investigation revealed that the cause of the accident appears to have been a possible landing gear malfunction. The plane sustained damage to the underbelly and both propellers. The cabin remained structurally intact.
The Transportation Safety Board was notified and are conducting an investigation.
