Wednesday night saw the new mayor and council of Comox sworn into the new term, with Nicole Minions as mayor.
Minions takes the seat of former mayor Russ Arnott, who withdrew from the mayoral race due to health concerns, leaving minions to be the acclaimed mayor for the 2022 to 2026 term.
Speaking to council members and visitors, Minions said the responsibilities the council is taking on large challenges and responsibilities as the council continues.
“And at times it’s very challenging to come up with an absolute win-win solution for a community and businesses of 15,000 people,” said Minions. “But I know that every person around this table is bringing their experience, their knowledge and their moral compass to make the best decision they have.”
The new mayor added she is looking forward to continuing to work for K’omoks First Nation and having the opportunity to live in the area to put its residents first.
“I have the utmost faith in the collaboration and the spirit of putting community first with this council,” said Minions. “I’m really looking forward to the next four years, it is my honour and privilege to be sitting here this evening.”
Councillors were appointed to the Comox Valley Regional District (CVRD), along with board appointments and community organization liaison appointments.
Acting mayors were also appointed for times throughout the year along with signing authority.
