Just in time for another holiday season, the staff of 98.9 Jet FM ran their Feed the Valley Campaign.
The two-day radiothon collects non-perishable food items and monetary donations to help those in need across the Comox Valley. This year, the benefactor is once again the Comox Valley Food Bank.
While donations of any size were welcomed, a $500 donation purchased a pallet of a food product, which averages out to around 1,000 lbs of food.
It’s the fifth year that the event has run in the Comox Valley. It started in 2018, generating 42 pallets and growing each year until reaching a record high last season with 173 pallets sold.
The final number of pallets this year is still being tabulated, but the number at last check sits at 117 pallets – which projects to be about 117,000 pounds of food going to the local food bank. Smaller donations are pooled together to create “community pallets” – those community pallets are the ones still being counted.
