Comox Valley RCMP impound 3 vehicles for excessive speed

Comox Valley RCMP have impounded multiple vehicles for more than doubling the speed limit in some cases.

Officers say on Jan. 27, a member was on the Inland Island Highway at Cook Creek when he observed an Audi A7 travelling at 185 km/h in a 90 km/h zone. The vehicle was impounded for seven days and the driver was issued a ticket for excessive speed.

Earlier in the month, they say an officer clocked a Toyota 4Runner on Ryan Road at 120 km/h in a 60 km/h zone. The vehicle was also impounded, and the driver got a ticket for excessive speed.

The month capped off with an officer observing a vehicle hitting 110 km/h on 29th Street, a 50 km/h zone. RCMP say the road was wet and slushy, with snow still falling.

They say the officer initiated a traffic stop and smelled a liquor odour. However, the driver refused to provide a breath sample at the scene and his black Jeep Wrangler was impounded for 30 days.

RCMP add his licence was suspended for 90 days in addition to a ticket for excessive speed.
