Multiple power outages and ferry cancellations have affected several areas of Vancouver Island and the Sunshine Coast this morning.
According to BC Hydro, as of 9 am just over 3,500 customers were without power in the two areas. That includes 2,300 in Campbell River, which is mostly out because of a downed wire, and 1,200 in Powell River, the cause of which was still under investigation. Early outages in Courtenay were already restored by that time.
UPDATE 9:40 am: Power has been restored for Powell River as of 9:30 am. 1,000 still without power in Campbell River as power was restored to 1,300 at 9:15 am.
UPDATE 11:55 AM: Due to work being done on crew equipment, over 2,500 people in Campbell River have lost power.
UPDATE 12:15 PM: Power was restored again in Campbell River, according to BC Hydro.
With this weekend seeing heavy amounts of rain and wind, BC Ferries have suffered multiple cancellations of their sailings.
The 9:55 am sailing departing Comox and the 11:50 am sailing departing Little River was also canceled. All sailings between Quathiaski Cove and Campbell River were also canceled throughout the morning. They’re anticipating services to return with a 12:15 pm and 1:30 pm sailings from Quathiaski Cove this afternoon.
