The Town of Comox has received approval from the Supreme Court of BC to build a viewing platform on the site of Shakesides.
The approval comes following years of planning and consultation with the community and
the K’ómoks First Nation, with the platform overlooking parts of Goose Spit once it’s finished construction.
This platform aims to provide opportunities for the community to view the animals and plants in the park, along with learning about the environment and history of the First Nations.
Town Mayor Nicole Minions says the platform will be an area where everyone can enjoy the park for decades.
“The ability to construct this viewing platform with Mack Laing, nature, and First Nations history panels has been years in the making, and we are happy to be able to transform this area into a usable space,” says Minions.
The Town adds they’ll now begin fulfilling the conditions from the approval, with an expected start time for construction set for next year.
