Getting rid of big amounts of yard waste will be easier, through new waste tags from the City of Courtenay.
These tags are officially an option for residents included in the curbside collection program, with the tags allowing for up to two new yard waste bags to be added for collection day.
This would increase the collection volume from 360 Liters to 600 liters per household, according to the City.
Utilities manager Rodney Armstrong says this announcement comes as those who live with bigger amounts of yard waste have been asking the city for more options with curbside collection.
“This new tag program will provide one more way for households with higher-than-average amounts of yard waste to easily dispose of their materials at the curb for the rest of the year as we prepare for the launch of automated collection in 2024,” says Armstrong.
The tags have been set for a price of five dollars per bag, with the tags allowing city staff to monitor the demand for the service.
The tags are available for purchase at City Hall for the rest of the year.
