Now with some extreme heat in the Valley, fire hazard risks are high, according to Courtenay Deputy Fire Chief Kurt McDonald. The city and area will be under a campfire ban starting tomorrow at noon.
That doesn’t mean you can’t head out to the woods and pitch your tent this weekend. McDonald has some advice for anyone looking to spend their weekend outdoors.
McDonald adds the fire department’s already been busier than usual dealing with bark mulch fires.
He says these types of calls are expected to continue with the hot and dry weather this summer. And of course, the Valley is under a water restriction. How does this affect the local fire departments?
McDonald says departments encourage residents to conserve as much water as possible, but fire crews aren’t too worried about running out of water.
